Finally got around to seeing this. Floyd is always a little corny, but there’s some solid, noisy jams in here.
Yes, “Beyond & Before” (Live, France Fest 1969)
Haven’t really thought to come on here lately, but thanks for still following. Here’s an excellent video of Yes.
Head over to Aquarium Drunkard for a bracing shot of Neil Young on his legendary 1973 Tonight’s The Night tour! One of my favorites. Not incredibly rare, but if you haven’t heard it, you’re in for a treat. Over here on Doom & Gloom, I’ve got a bonus track — the single longest version of “Tonight’s The Night” … ever? Clocking in at just under 35 minutes, it’s the longest one I know of anyway. And it’s a motherfucker, maybe one of the most unhinged things Neil ever did. Kudos to the Chicago crowd for following the whole thing, they seem to be hanging on every note, even singing along to a tune they’d never heard before that night. Were they each given a bottle of Jose Cuervo at the door?
Steve Hauschildt - Sequitur (Kranky, LP, 2012)
Great little record here. A little better than the new Emeralds, even. Heavy Tangerine Dream vibes circa Theif here for me, just without all the guitar.
Tropa Macaca - Ectoplasma (Software, 12”, 2012)
One of my favorites from this year, easily. A more evil, noisy, and messy Blues Control coming from techno as opposed to new age.
Oh duh, here it is. Compare and contrast?
The Heads, “Spliff Riff”
Listening to the version on that recent reissue of Relaxing With… (“Spliff Riff (#1)”) but this one is a close, live approximation and was available on YouTube. The Relaxing version doesn’t really pull back on tempo until close to the end, which is appreciated, but I like this one’s atonal wailing in the beginning.
Anyways, cool band.
R. Stevie Moore, “Your Daughter And I”
Rudimentary Peni - Death Church (Corpus Christi, LP, 1983)
Full album, y’all.
